How to debug a fiber optic switch sensor

Debugging a fiber optic switch sensor involves calibration, sensitivity adjustment, and verifying switch settings to ensure accurate detection.Step 1: Safety PrecautionsAlways ensure power is off when connecting or disconnecting the sensor to prevent damage. Avoid direct eye exposure to fiber optic lasers, as they can cause serious eye injury .Step 2: Automatic CalibrationPlace the workpiece in the sensor's sensitive area and press and hold the “SET” button for 3 seconds. The sensor will memorize the sensitivity value and display it, typically in green, indicating the active calibration point .Step 3: Two-Point CalibrationEnsure the workpiece is outside the sensitive area and hold the “SET” button for 3 seconds to record the first reference value.Move the workpiece into the sensitive area and hold the “SET” button for 3 seconds again to record the second reference value. The sensor will now produce a level change when the measured value transitions between these two points .Step 4: General Sensitivity AdjustmentUse the Select Button along with the left and right buttons to increase or decrease the sensitivity setpoint. This allows fine-tuning of the sensor to detect smaller or larger changes in the target object .Step 5: Position CalibrationWith the workpiece outside the sensitive area, hold the “SET” button for 3 seconds.Place the workpiece at a specific distance from the probe and hold the “SET” button for 3 seconds to memorize the position. Each time the workpiece reaches this position, the sensor will trigger a level change, ensuring accurate positional detection .Step 6: Normally Open/Normally Closed SettingUse the switch selection button on the sensor to choose whether the internal switch is normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC). This setting determines the default state of the sensor output when no object is detected .Step 7: Maintenance TipsKeep the sensor and surrounding area free of debris, oil, or dust.Avoid contact with corrosive or overheated media.Ensure proper installation in pipelines or machinery to prevent liquid accumulation that may interfere with detection . By following these steps—automatic calibration, two-point calibration, sensitivity adjustment, position calibration, and switch configuration—you can effectively debug and optimize a fiber optic switch sensor for reliable operation.
